ISPs blocking PirateBay, etc

Postby witnesone » Sat Dec 24, 2016 8:48 pm

My ISP has enforced the ban, I was surprised to find out that the VPN I'm using wasn't able to get around the block and I was still seeing my own ISPs webpage saying this website is blocked. I went to myhostname.net and it was definately the VPN IP address, I'll have to check if I should be changing dns/gateway settings or using something other than PPTP. I'm too pissed off to sort this VPN problem out at the moment, I'd rather it didn't work at all than appear to work but somehow I still see my ISP blocked page. Anyone a guru on this VPN stuff? I've got a purevpn account and use pppd in debian linux, set everything as per purevpns instructions.

Luckily, tor browser doesn't have a problem accessing piratebay and I've been able to use that. Anyone interested can get it from http://torproject.org

I am on a Telstra network right now, and it just seems to be a dns block.
I changed my dns and I can access the pages fine. I am now using OpenNIC dns.

You should use namebench to see which dns server would be best suited for you

Im with iiNet, going to replace their standard boblite router with the best I can find. Heaps of devices on my network, makes sense for me to try and solve the problem at the router. I've been looking for one with a decent processor, DD-WRT support and OpenVPN client. ASUS RT-AC5300 looks like the ducks nuts, some other good ones like Netgear Nighthawk, Linksys WRT, TP-Link Archer... too many choices haha.

I dont know if this matters but check if your DNS leaks. But using a different DNS like googles for eg. will get around the block (8.8.8.8) also you can use another clone of piratebay, google up piratebay proxy
