new to rf what should i get

new to scanning and shit, what scanner should i get if i want to listen to the trunk networks and the odd fire/ambo public transport security people?
Prefer handheld. Even if its possible to be compatible with motorola p25

Uniden trunk tracker, but if your from NSW all the trunking shit went to digital though you can still get it on those good digital trunk tracker scanners but they may be going to encrypted also but im not sure, no longer live in the city so don't monitor it anymore.

Seems like the appropriate thread to ask this, If i wanted to buy the most versatile handheld, what would i buy? I was looking at the Baofeng UV5RA's... on the right track? Im guessing anything UHF over 480 MHz is good?

Wouxun KG-UVD1P i got one seems to work pretty good, they are fairly well priced, it is a dual band little cheapo radio but the battery has pretty good life on it.

136-174 / 420-520 MHz

awesomez, you should get the programming cable for it to if it doesn't come with one makes it easier to program it up.
