UV-5RA (Fancy looking new one) - Programming cable on route too, but programming it by hand is a breaze too (though I woudln't want to do it for all 128 programmable memories)

Oh, and scanning... So cool!

Only qualm - Haven't yet worked out a way to see what CTS / selective squelch used by the radios found by scanning.

So I was pretty impressed with the UV-5R, so I thought I'd order it's little brother, the BF-888S, it's one of those handhelds with no screen, just a 16 channel frequency / channel selector, volume / power knob, push to talk, and two programmable keys.

So far it's pretty awesome, while it's no where near as big or as solid feeling as my Motorolas, it's actualy got more features, and is a 5W TX rather than a 4W. Plus, unlike the Motorolas they cost $22 each and include a charger, battery, stealth headset, antenna and strap, you have to counter in the $7 for the programming cable, or you can make your own like I did, but holy shitcow they're just so fucking cheap.

If I break this, I won't care, it's the cost of a meal. Plus it's got a clip that feels like an angry lobsters claw, so there is little chance of me loosing it, it's light ~200g vs 1Kg Motorola GP series,

Man, if you're after a set of handhelds for just fucking around with, to act as Walkie Talkies even, this is the thing. Plus, 5W TX vs 1W TX of comparable handheld @ Dick Smith which retails around $120.

I'm going to buy soooo many of these...

I've also used them to build a ghetto as repeater, using two of them, 69'ed,
Radio A listens on Frequency A and is positioned next to the mic of the other radio.
Radio B is Voice Operated Transmit, and TXes on frequency B.

Mobile / Handheld radios RX on Frequency B & TX on Frequency A.

Plus, it running on CB Frequencies, so it's allll goooood.

I'm going to do it using the headset port, which also includes a PTT which will be triggered by the voltage on the speaker line feeding into the mic line on radio B, as currenlty it's not as clean sounding as it could be (I'm somewhat of an Audiophile) and it takes about 0.2 seconds for the Voice Activated Transmit (VOX) to kick in.

Still not as feature-packed as the UV-5R, how do you find the Wouxun's?
